The view of New York City from the 102nd floor deck of the Empire State building was truly something to behold, though it was hard to do so with the multitude of tourists buzzing around, taking pictures and chattering about where they were going to dinner, what souvenirs they wanted to buy, and how many likes this picture they took for social media was going to get. For someone who’d turned into a New York native of sorts, those kinds of crowds bothered Julia, for more than one reason.
The deck on the 86th floor, though, was usually less populated, sometimes even completely empty, which was why Julia was there, looking through the tall, curved fence through the viewfinder on her DSLR. Of course, taking pictures of the New York skyline she was not, the end of her telephoto lens pointed instead towards one of the skyscrapers, searching for the window for an office somewhere on the 65th floor. She didn’t have much time, considering security for the deck was there, in part, to prevent something like what Julia was doing, but the guy on shift was new, so Julia figured it was worth a shot for the lead she’d gotten.
Most of the offices had their windows treated with a privacy sheen or had blinds pulled, but occasionally she saw some executive typing away at their desk or watching YouTube videos. Julia grinned, even seeing one man walking about his office on the phone, silently yelling at the person on the line with his shirt completely off. Julia wondered how much she would have to make to be able to do that in her office - if she had one, anyways.
“Come on…” Julia mumbled, about to lose hope when suddenly, a woman sitting on a man’s lap in the middle of one of the offices caught her eye. Keeping her lens focused on the window in question, the woman quickly counted up to confirm she was on the right level - 63.. 64.. 65. Jackpot! The corner office in question supposedly belonged to the CIO of faith-based publishing company, and what Julia was snapping shots of was his secret meetings with his mistress. For someone at the head of a company supposedly rooted in the morals of faith, the pictures and story that would follow could devastate him.
People sometimes asked how Julia could do what she did, taking photos of people that could potentially ruin lives. Julia didn’t see it that way, though, rather finding that if these people were more careful and just a bit smarter, they could avoid the end of her lens. But when you were having an affair in your office with a woman who clearly wasn’t your middle-aged wife...
