Jewel Junction qualifies as a very large city, though doesn't rival eastern titans the size of New York City. The city started out as a miners stop in the early 1900s. When a family struck it rich in rubies in the early decades of the 1900s, Jewel Junction started to boom. It's growth would slow until the mid forties, when it started to pick up again. Today, it houses numerous mines collecting materials from coal to gold and rubies. Factories and plants produce and maintain the numerous tools for the mines as well as their own factories. A plush uppercity experience combined with a segregated but accessible undercity make the city seem a different place from top to bottom.
The city is built more vertically than many, since it is in the mountains. Ramps for cars, or elevators and stairs for people are common in the more downtown sections, while near the edges, it tends to use the hills and slopes for more scenic views, libraries, campuses, and parks. Underneath it all, the foundation of the city is in the Undercity, where it seems to change freely between cave, abandoned warehouses, slums, or old mineshafts. Around the city are roads and highways leading to suburbs, and more rural areas further out.
