There were three of them, three men in president masks (tricky dick, Ronny, and Bubba respectively) that stormed the Tallworth National Bank. Two were armed with assault rifles, the other had carried what appeared to be a shotgun. However, when two security guards had reached for their guns, the man with the shotgun revealed that instead of shells or bullets his gun fired a pair of massive bag that knocked both men flat on their backs. A quick blow with the butt of a gun was enough to knock them unconscious. As the trio burst into the main floor of the bank, their driver in the car pulled up to the curb across from the bank was so tense that he did not notice the tall musclebound man looking towards the bank who suddenly sprinted into an alley.
The trio of masked men were moving fast. One had began crowd control immediately, while one man was keeping the tellers from sounding any alarm off. The other was filling four bags with bills, unmarked according to the teller. They weren't rushing, the man was filling the bags, so that they could barely be closed. He was filling the third when all of a sudden, the doors of the bank were thrown open, and a blur of blue and purple soared in in a flash. The two men working the floor turned to look at him, a massive man, in a costume complete with boots and a cape, a full beard and a black head of hair floated inches above the floor of the bank with his hands on his hips. "Excuse me, I don't believe any of that money belongs to you."

Shock and awe, that was the look plastered across the face of every single man and woman in the bank. The faces of two presidents swung to look at him, and though Mace couldn't see their face, he made an assumption that they looked much the same. One of them, the man handling the hostages made what might have been the smart decision for someone trying to effectively rob a bank. He took aim, and fired. A three round burst, there were screams from the hostages, the other man clearly yelled, "Redge!" and in the confusion the teller directly behind the mask clearly reached under the counter, all in the flash of a second. At the end of that second, three bullets crumpled against the Alpha symbol on the man's chest. He flew towards the man who'd fired the gun, and tapped his knuckles against the man's face with very little force, and the man crumpled to the ground, unconscious. Then, he turned, and as he did, the other president had turned to the teller who'd pressed the alarm button and raised his gun. As he pulled the trigger, Alphaman flew towards him with speed that must have been untrue, and as the bullet was only mere inches from the employees face Alphaman crushed it in his fist.
Then Alphaman turned and flicked the thin sliver that had once been the bullet at the man's forhead, and the man crashed to the floor. The last of the crooks sprinted from the vault shouting, "Alright y'all I got-" Alphaman was in front of him almost as soon as he appeared, soaring through the air at lightning speed. He shattered the barrel of the man's gun in his hands, and then lifted the man by his shirt, and flew to collect the other two men. When he held all three and floated a few feet above the air with them all, he said, "Is everyone alright?" However, he didn't get an answer, the people around him simply burst into applause and cheers. The teller suddenly hugged him from behind and asked him, "What's your name?" THe man looked down at his chest then smiled and said, "Alphaman."
Flying out of the front doors of the bank, Alphaman was greeted by more flashing cameras and clamoring reporters as well as a police blockade. Quick response time.

A smile split Alphaman's face through his thick beard, and the behemoth slowly floated down to stand next to a group of police officers whose faces showed confusion as they lowered their guns. Alphaman touched down toes first in front of them and then let the men fall to the ground. One of the cops, an older man, took two ginger steps toward the caped giant, and said, "Um, hello? Thank... Thank you?" Mace straightened his back, and decided now would be a good time to ham it up. Smiling broad, he said, "Hello citizens! I've cleaned up a little mess here, but wouldn't mind it very much if you could take this trash to the curb." The cop smiled for a brief moment, then said, "Thanks."
The radio on the officers chest suddenly blared, "ATTENTION, GETTAWAY DRIVER SPEEDING UP SEVENTH."
Mace willed himself into the air, and suddenly he sprung to about ten feet higher than the ground, his cape swaying around his broad figure as he suddenly was enveloped in the light of the sun, full well in view of the cameras. "Well, then I'm off." With a boom, Alphaman was soaring through the air. He still wasn't sure how to hold his hands while flying, whether he should put both forward in fists, or one forward, maybe one in a fist and the other open. For now, he held them both back, and flew like a torpedo, but he wasn't sure if that made him look more heroic, or more threatening.
It wasn't long before he saw it, a black charger, weaving in and out of traffic being chased by two police cruisers. Before the driver knew what happened, Alphaman had flown in front of the car and crossed his arms. Even with the driver slamming on the breaks, the car still hit Mace's calves, and crumpled up in the front to the point that Mace's face and the driver's were only inches from each other, though thankfully the man's airbag had deployed. However, the engine began to rumble, and smoke started to sputter out of the holes made by the collision. As the cops chasing the car pulled up, Mace did something out of desperation. He peirced the body of the car with his fingers on both hands and lifted it above his head, then ripped it apart. The driver fell a few feet to the ground but was otherwise unharmed from the man in front of him literally ripping his car into two halves. As the cops got out of their cars to cuff the perp, Alphaman flew into the air, and stopping yards above the New York skyline, he beat both pieces of the car together, and they burst into the flames at the moment of impact. Taking off at high speed, Alphaman quickly put the flames out by flying through the air, and circled back to land next to the last arrest of the bank robbery. Still holding one car half in each hand, he noticed a few flashes from cameras then said to the police, "I'm not sure if this is worth impounding, but in case it is I made sure it'd be safe." And with that, arms back and cape flowing Alphaman flew off at breakneck speed.

"We want you to start handling all the resturants we work with as well as the campaigns you're already handling, do you think you can manage that Mace?" Ms. Graviss stared at Mace through her massive Ray Band glasses. The woman either had very poor vision, or she simply thought having extra glass made her look more fashionable. Either way, Mace always managed somehow to be distracted by the sheer amount of weight all that glass must have added to her face. "I should be able to-" She cut him off, looking down at her desk where she was shuffling around a few reports about finance for a presentation one of her co-heads was going to be giving. "It won't come with a pay raise. We're in hard times, however, when the fiscal year ends you'll be able to make a strong case for one. Close the door on the way out." Mace got up and made his way out of her office, "Thank you."
Standing in line at his favorite coffee shop, Mace logged onto Taco Bell's Twitter account to try and think of some clever promotional pun. Instead, he stared at a blank screen as he moved forward three places in line before finally typing, Go Diva for A Gordita! He hated himself. Just before he was in the front of the line he heard a man a few people behind him start speaking to his girlfriend, "No, no, that guy's just a guy fighting crime, The Warrior Princess, she's a Superhero! She fought a monster and saved all those people!" His girlfriend disagreed, "Alphaman saved people too! Those guys in the bank could've killed them. Besides, she didn't fight a monster, she fought a lion, that's animal control." The Warrior Princess, who the hell was that? "Sir, what do you want?" "Oh sorry, I'll have an iced vanilla latte please." Warrior Princess. Fighting a Lion.

About forty minutes after Mace Adams clocked out, a pair of boots touched down in an alley a few blocks away from his apartment in Inwood. A touch of a ring changed those boots to converse low-tops, and the feet in them started moving. Mace had decided that anytime he would use his powers in any capacity that could be viewed he would do so in his costume. No reason to give the world an image of a Superhero with his face and his clothes. So carrying a massive sack of groceries in one hand and fishing in his pocket for his keys with the other, a completely inconspicuous young man walked out of an alley. With a powerful pair of legs it was easy to make it three blocks within a matter of moments. Mace made it into his apartment building and started the long walk up to the thirteenth floor. He was just between the sixth and seventh floor when he was almost ran into by a woman maybe a year or two younger than him.
"Ope, sorry." The woman laughed just a bit at the end of her apology. She was quite pretty, she reminded him of a teacher he'd grown up with who'd been half French and half Vietnamese. She had a small nose that barely kept her glasses up, and her hair was cut short, barely going past her ears. She had a very pretty smile, one that would have fit in anywhere from Wall Street to Beverly Hills. "It's alright, I shouldn't have been climbing so fast. I'm Mace by the way, I moved in about a week and a half ago." He reached his free hand out and she took it, "Julie. Mace? That's not your run of the mill name." "Yeah, well my parents didn't want me to be run of the mill." "Well, are you?" Smiling, Mace said, "Oh, painfully so, I put on khakis one leg at a time before I eat my oatmeal every morning." Mace could have slapped himself, that was a stupid thing to say. She laughed. Well, that was fine. "Um, do you mind if I slide by?" "Oh yeah, it was nice to meet you Julie." "You too."
Once Mace closed his apartment door and began loading up his fridge he felt his phone vibrating in his pocket. He pulled it out and saw that it was a facetime call, with the name at the top of the screen reading, Dad.

Mace clicked accept on his phone then quickly brought the thing to his ear, "Hi dad." "Howdy son! I got your mother here, hold on let me put her on speaker." Then came a long process of Mace putting his groceries away with his free hand while the other hand held the He listened as his mother tried to explain that it was just a simple button on the phone and as his father explained that he was sure he needed to open the settings. In the time it took them, Mace could have flown to the south side of Chicago and turned speaker on for them, but he didn't. He merely finished unpacking the brown bag and went to sit on his sofa. It had been a great deal, twenty-five bucks at the consignment shop. Sitting down on it, his father finally gave up and handed the phone to his mother, who immediately clicked the speaker button.
"Hey honey." "Hey mom." "How has settling in been at the new office?" "It's been fine mom, everybody's been nice." "Have any of the Partners been helping you?" "Mom I haven't been in the same room as any of the partners." "How's the apartment?" "It's good, there's not a ton of room but I don't need very much. I got a bunch of stuff for cheap at a couple second hand shops." "You met any nice girls?" "..." "You seen they're working on an Mace Wonder movie?" "No! Are you serious?" "Yeah, they're gonna say who the director is in a few days. They're casting it in New York, you should go in. Since ya filled out you could play a good Mace, Mace." Mace smiled, "I don't think the public spotlight's for me dad." His father's next words were drowned out, by a high pitched noise like a dog whistle that drilled into his ears. What was strange was that it didn't come from outside, it came from the phone. The source of the noise was in Chicago.
"Listen, I hate to cut this call short, but something just came up, a neighbor needs help with setting up his TV and he's worse with tech than dad so it's gonna take a while." "Hey now!" "Okay, call us sometime soon, we love you." "Love you guys too, bye." Click. Mace hurried outside, and headed to a nearby alley. Like a flash, Mace Adams was in the sky, and Alphaman took off at breakneck speed towards the city of big shoulders.

At the top speed he'd ever hit, Alphaman could likely have reached Chicago within seven minutes, but he didn't go quite as hard as he possibly could. In truth, he didn't no just how fast he could go or how strong he was. He tried testing his speed in flight, and almost taken out a skyscraper in Seattle, and decided to avoid testing his limits just for the hell of it. Better to save that for when he needed to open a can of something on someone. He had a suspicion he might need to do so right about now. He made it to Chicago and floated above the water of Lake Michigan, the force of his stop causing a small patch of waves below him. He looked about the city, and could not see anything worth investigating. However, he got something else then, the same high pitched noise he'd picked up over the phone. This close, it caused him a great deal of pain, and he actually fell from the sky, only barely stopping himself before he hit the lake's surface. Fighting through the piercing feeling in his ears, he flew on towards where he perceived the source of the noise to be. He flew there, a sort of quarter the speed that had brought him to his home city. The sound still rang in his ears, and it grew louder and harder to ignore. The sound felt like a weight that pushed him down from the sky, and each time the pain caused him to lose elevation he had to muster up even more focus to fly back up again. Eventually he found it, a busy city street in between a Chinese take out place and a pet store. Fighting to remain in flight, Alphaman floated just above where he though the sound had been coming from, and found nothing. Then, after only a few moments, the sound dissipated. He heard people on the street around him whispering to each other, pointing at him and saying things like "It's Alphaman!" "Is there a bank robbery or something?" "He's shorter than he looked on the news."He flew high into the air, but he could still hear them. What he couldn't hear was the ringing noise. He heard train whistles, car horns, music from radios, but he couldn't hear that shrill little noise. Nothing. Then it came again, from a few blocks away, and he went again into the throws of agony from such a sudden onslaught. After it he flew once more, and when he reached it it was gone in seconds. Twice more this happened before Alphaman had had enough. There were two directions he hadn't looked at each source, up and down. Up was possible, but he wasn't exactly certain that he'd make it very high before his breath became thin and he risked death. A test of his powers best left for another day. What he did know from growing up in the city was that he could breathe in the subway. So when the sound came again, Alphaman took off for it, and then flew into a nearby subway entrance, then followed the tunnel towards the sound. He realized something that confirmed his theory, the sound was getting louder. Eventually he reached the source of the noise, in the middle of a tunnel. A man covered in odd looking tech, pointing his arm at the roof of the tunnel.

As Alphaman came to a full stop just in front of the man with his odd costume, and as the stop came, the bottom corners of his cape came to wrap around his legs. "I'm going to ask you to stop whatever you're doing, and tell me how to stop whatever it is you've done so far." The man turned to Alphaman, and the only bit of his face that showed any skin, his mouth split into a grin. "Fat chance da-" His speech was cut off by the man lifting the same arm he'd been pointing at the ceiling of the subway, pointing it at Alphaman, and doing whatever it was that created that deafening sound.
Up above in the air, Alphaman had been able to hear it, to hear the faintest bit of the noise, and it had felt like death when it his ears. The power of his hearing had increased with his strength, and the sheer force of the sound waves on his now more powerful than ever ear drums made it feel as if head was being ripped apart. It was like every migraine he'd had in his entire life had hit him all at once, there up above the skyline of his hometown. Down here, between walls that bounced sound around, with the sound generated right next to his face, he wasn't sure he even had a face, or a head. Or a body, or even knew what his body was, he reached a point within moments where pain became equilibrium, and it was almost like he felt nothing. Almost.
When Alphaman finally hit the ground, knees first, the man sprinted off and try as he might to rise and follow him, Alphaman, perhaps the strongest thing on Earth couldn't muster up the strength to push himself up. His face felt wet, and he realized he was covered in sweat, except that there was a portion of the damp that was warm. Managing to lift a hand to his nose, the south side boy removed it to see that his hand was now covered in his own blood. At a snails pace, he picked himself up off the ground, and the echo came again, and he had to fight to keep his feet. He needed to go after it, Fight through the pain Mace.

Alphaman stood and waited for the noise to die once more. Then flung himself after it. He tore down the tunnel of the subway at the same speed he'd gone only minutes ago to reach Chicago. Within seconds, luck had him right in front of the man again. Once more his arm rose, likely aiming at the hero's ears once more, but Mace wasn't giving him the chance. He grabbed the arm before it had raised even a few inches, and tightened his grip just enough to crush the technology and pull it off. Mace stripped the metal off of the man from the shoulder down, then the man's mouth gaped open. "That was seven months of work Clinker!" "I don't care."
"Now, you're going to tell me what it was you were doing, I'm assuming something with the structure of the tunnels." "You got that right daddy-o. Bout three more minutes and I'd have this place crumblin' so much all it'd take would be one call to the mayors office to get my a$$ payed. One more shock after that an' the streets above'd come down into the tunnels, an' the city of Chicago has to stop for a few days instead of a few hours to fix it." D*mn. So Alphaman had to keep the subway from being crushed by tons and tons of cement. Doable, definitely doable. "And you're not stopping me." A group of holes suddenly appeared on the man's chest plate bit of steel and wires, and the sound came out again, stronger than before.
Immediately, Mace let the man go, and crumbled to the ground despite his best efforts. He fell to his knees, and expected the man to run once more, but he didn't. He just stood over Mace, and the agony wouldn't let up. The powerful hero almost thought of absolutely nothing. His mind was too strained under the pain to produce more than a tiny number of straws to grasp at. However, as the man above him finally seemed to be losing interest, and as his ears were starting to go numb, one of the straws seemed like a better idea than anything else he could think of. Sound vs sound. He thought of it, and almost immediately, he screamed. He hadn't been trying very hard to be loud lately. Since the powers, people hadn't asked him to repeat himself. Now he could see why. The high pitched sound was almost drowned out completely by the mighty roar of Alphaman, who was able to stand after only a few seconds. After a few more, he was in front of the man, and crumbling the chest piece up in his hands. "Oh, f**k me."

Mace was stuck, holding the chunk of earth to prevent its falling for an hour and a half while the structure of the tunnels was reinforced to a point that the union was certain they could fix it on their own. With that, Alphaman flew back to the surface, and was greeted with smiling faces, flashing cameras, and applause. The tall young man let a smile split his face, then flew off like a bullet, blazing through the sky and leaving a tail like a streaming plane.
He landed again, in the alley, and once more made the walk to his building then up his stairs. Closing his door, Mace opened the freezer door with his mind, floated two frozen packs, one of peas one of corn over to himself as he walked to the couch. He flopped over the armrest so that he landed face first with his face in a cushion, and floated the packs against his ears. It felt like the worst ear aches he'd ever had were being amplified by a thousand.
After enough time, he rolled over so that he could look at the TV, and picked up the remote, clicking it onto the news. They were finishing a report, about an office building that had two holes in the roof, and how they believed that little "Atlas" character had come by and attempted a robbery in the night. When the report finished, they threw to a cooking segment, where a massive Italian man and his assistant were describing how to make the best Orzo this side of the Atlantic. Mace sat up when he saw the chef's assistant. It was Julie, the woman who lived in his building. Huh, neat.

That night, the news had an in depth report on his little fight with the man they'd christened, 'Bee-Bop.' Darnell Ruxpin, the younger anchor for YHH news was the one giving the report, and over his shoulder was one of the pictures that Mace had actually seen being taken. He had a cheesy grin and a wink, looking every bit the confident hero. What was odd in the photo was how different he looked, he could tell it was him, but only because he was Alphaman. His eyes, nose, and even his head were shaped differently, and his beard and hair were lighter in color and longer. That must have been part of the costume, whoever those things were that gave him his powers must have known about the whole secret identity thing, and helped him out. That sure was nice of them.
"Earlier today, the people of Chicago received a helping hand from the mysterious stranger, Alphaman. In the city's south side, the integrity of the subway tunnels were threatened when a man now identified as MIT Professor Martin Santonio, who was referred to by one enthusiastic source as Bee-Bop, used an array of devices that somehow weaponized sound. According to law enforcement in the area, Alphaman appeared in Chicago almost from thin air, then found the scientist in the nick of time to stop him from damaging the subway to a point of no return by destroying his equipment. The hero then held the crumbling earth in place long enough for workers to set up supports, making it possible for work to be done without further damage that could endanger anyone's life. While there are still some skeptics on Alphaman, allow me to say, I'm more inclined to agree with this young man," a clip began to roll of a little boy with a reporter kneeling in front of him, microphone in his face.
The reporter spoke first, "So, you saw Alphaman fly down in the street, what did you think of him? Is he here to protect us?" The little boy thrust his arms up, and shouted, "Alffbaman is awesome! He's a super-hero." The clip was over as soon as it had begun, ad Ruxpin laughed with his co-anchor before she started to explain that there had been numerous cold cases solved in Boston by an unknown source, and that three wanted criminals had turned up at police stations tied up and gagged across the last two weeks.
Mace fell asleep that night with a smile on his face. According to a very insightful little kid, he was a Superhero, and that wasn't half bad.
